The 2021 World Cup Finals kicked off at 11am on 10/24/21. This marked the first World Cup Finals for the 3 Point Productions partnership with Jeff Smith, though certainly not a first for Jeff. Announcers Reed Flake and LeAnn Huhman opened the event with a prayer and the National Anthem.
The event began with the Open Preliminary Roping. With 80% payback, the top 3 teams took home $4,120, $2,470 and $1,650. Congratulations to:
1st : Tyler Wade & Cory Petska
2nd: Kaleb Driggers and Kollin VonAhn
3rd: Coleman Proctor and Buddy Hawkins
Fast Time: Kooper Branum & Gage Williams
Coleman Proctor caught up with the Average Winners after the Short-Go. Tyler praised the format and the duo both were impressed with the quality of cattle, “The steers were pretty good today, and the barrier was perfect.” Adding even more value to the event, their fees for the shoot-out were also waived.
Immediately following the Open Prelim Short-Go was the 16.5 Preliminary. With 80% payback, this roping put $16,320 back in these ropers pockets:
1st: Tyler Tryan & Jake Long, $6,370
2nd: Tyler Hobert & Kolton Good, $4,780
3rd: Garrett Elmore & Jett Hellman, $3,180
4th: Todd Drummond & Chad Mathes, $1,590
Fast Time: Todd Drummond & Cutter Thomison, $400
Team work made the dream work for this duo. Once again in the 16.5 Prelims, the teams were happy with the setup and the cattle. “It was a good setup roping. It didn’t feel like you had to gut your horse too much,” said Long.
After the 16.5 we led right in to the 15.5. With Shootout positions up for grabs, these ropers were paid out a total of $20,160:
1st: Tyler Tryan & Nicky Northcott, $7,900
2nd: Kooper Branum & Buddy Hawkins, $5,930
3rd: Briar A Teague & Levi Pettigrew $3,950
4th: Kolton Good & Derrick Jantzen, $1,980
Fast Time: Eric Owens & Braden Harmon, $400
Tyler Tryan became a little more comfortable behind the camera after his second trip to the winner’s circle. This time with Northcott, Tyler’s number one piece of advice was “Try not to break the barrier. Don’t miss.”
Wrapping the day up with the Purina® Open Shootout with 100% payback, ropers had a shot to earn back a total of $28,500:
1st: Tyler Wade & Cory Petska, $17,100
2nd: Bubba Buckaloo & Hunter Koch, $11,400
Once again at the backdrop, this team had a great day in the arena. Working as a true team, Petska helped guarantee the win despite Wade using more of the arena than he intended. “I ran him down there far enough I thought we were going to win second, and then Cory threw right behind me and shut the run down a little early.”
